Murdoch Live

Murdoch Live is a MMOSS (Massively Multiplayer Online Social Simulator). It's quite a mouth full but it's very similar to the very successful MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) genre, but with less game and more social simulation. Our team decided to develop this type of genre because one, MMO games are a hit, and two, it was something that hasn't been done before at university and we wanted a challenge.

The simulation is based around the Murdoch University campus which was completely modeled. Our target audience was first year students who knew anything about the university or anyone who goes there. Our aim was to provide these first years with a way to explore the university and meet other first year students.

The projects requirements were, it had to be in 3D, there had to be a complete set documentation and internal commenting, there had to be autonomous AI, and there had to be physics simulating in the world. We were given a lot of freedom when it came to the type of project and other features that we wanted to include. We went ahead and added a lot of extra features, some of them include, online networking, complete construction of the campus, and mini games that players can join in. At the end of the semester we had to give a presentation to the other groups, our lecturers and external company's that came in to see what we have done.
Considering the size of the projects, the number of team mates and the time we had, this was a very successful project.
